Microsoft recently held its Microsoft Build developer conference where AI innovation took center stage. With a ton of announcements coming from the event, we monitored many exciting updates to Microsoft Fabric – the unified, high performing analytics and AI platform. Most compelling about Microsoft Fabric is that it was built for the era of AI to provide an AI-ready foundation for analytics, machine learning and generative AI initiatives.

Microsoft has long been a leader in data management, with its legacy SQL Server technology and Azure Synapse Analytics, which has been a powerhouse for data warehousing, big data analytics and data integration. Microsoft Fabric represents the next leap forward—providing a single, end-to-end analytics solution that brings together data warehousing, data engineering, real-time analytics, business intelligence, and data science into one cohesive experience.

Microsoft features for moving Synapse Dedicated Pool to Microsoft Fabric

For Synapse users, Microsoft provides a clear path to leverage Microsoft Fabric’s capabilities. Key features and ongoing developments from Microsoft are focused on enabling a smooth migration of your Synapse Dedicated SQL Pools, ensuring your existing investments are preserved while you gain the benefits of Microsoft Fabric. This includes capabilities for data replication, schema transfer, and integration with Fabric’s Lakehouse architecture.

Bitwise IP to migrate ADF and Synapse pipelines to Microsoft Fabric

Migrating data pipelines is the most complex and challenging component of making your transition to Microsoft Fabric. Earlier this year at Microsoft Fabric Community Conference, Bitwise and the Microsoft Fabric product team presented on our Migration IP that streamlines the transition from existing Synapse and ADF pipelines to Microsoft Fabric Data Factory, solving a key challenge in adopting the unified analytics platform.

Migrating from other Data Platform environments to Microsoft Fabric

With 30 years of enterprise data management experience, our migration capabilities go beyond transitioning ADF and Synapse pipelines. Our capabilities and IP facilitate seamless migrations from legacy data platforms including SQL Server, IBM and Oracle covering data integration tools like SSIS, DataStage and Informatica. For example, we helped a Big Four global accounting firm migrate from Informatica to Microsoft Fabric with 83% automation resulting in 55% faster time to market.

Giant Microsoft Fabric Migration News on the Horizon

As a trusted Microsoft Fabric Migration Partner, we have been working closely with the Microsoft Fabric product team to build the absolute best solutions to help customers supercharge their transition to the unified data and AI platform. Stay tuned for major announcements on these developments. Until then, we invite you to join Bitwise and Microsoft for our June 19 webinar: Migrate SQL Server to Microsoft Fabric Faster and Accelerate AI Adoption.

Generative AI is transforming the business intelligence landscape, with leading BI tools from the cloud providers integrating AI into their products to improve performance and efficiency. As businesses increasingly rely on data-driven decision-making, the need for agile, scalable, and self-service analytics solutions has never been more apparent.

Despite innovations in BI tools, many organizations still rely on outdated systems that are difficult to integrate with modern cloud-based platforms. These legacy business intelligence environments create data silos and hinder the ability to gain a holistic view of business operations, which leads to more complexities as the data increases.

Modern BI Tools for 2025

In today’s landscape, there are many BI tools to choose from. As organizations are modernizing their data and analytics platforms in the cloud, we often see clients exploring tools provided by the cloud providers to maintain a unified analytics environment and take advantage of AI capabilities.

  • Google Cloud offers Looker which can run with Gemini AI models and integrates with BigQuery.
  • Microsoft offers Power BI which works with Co-Pilot and can deploy in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Amazon offers QuickSight which leverages Amazon Q for Generative BI.

BI Modernization Solution

While there are many benefits to modernizing legacy BI reports, migrating to modern cloud-based tools is no easy task. Because tools like Looker, Power BI and QuickSight offer such powerful features and functionality, we recommend that organizations re-engineer their apps to take full advantage of these capabilities rather than simply lift and shift.

Built on 25+ years of enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence experience, our BI Modernization practice and accelerators streamline the process to migrate legacy BI to cloud-native tools.

Case Studies for Modernizing BI

Organizations with a significant number of reports developed in systems like Cognos, MicroStrategy, Qlik and Tableau may feel limited by migration complexity to efficiently modernize their BI. Here are a few case studies to show how clients have successfully made the transition.

  • An entertainment company migrated Tableau to Looker to optimize performance and reduce development and maintenance costs.
  • A credit card company migrated a set of executive dashboards from Cognos to Power BI to understand business performance at a glance.
  • A financial services company simplified decision-making and tracking of management strategy and business plans by migrating reports from Tableau to QuickSight.

Modernize BI in 2025

The BI landscape is rapidly evolving as AI innovations help business stakeholders from analysts to executives make sense of ever-growing data volume and complexity to efficiently gain insights and make decisions.

At Bitwise, we help clients to transform their legacy BI environments into robust, cloud-powered platforms using a proven migration framework and accelerators to take the guesswork out of modernization.

As we approach the end of 2024, we are excited to announce our Insurance Data Modernization Practice designed to help data leaders get their data ready for advanced analytics and AI innovation.

Our Insurance Data Modernization Practice provides an industry-specific set of solution offerings that draw from our extensive experience solving data challenges with our Fortune 500 Insurance customers and incorporates lessons learned with customers in other data-driven industries.

Need for Modernizing Insurance Data

The Insurance industry is undergoing a digital transformation, driven by increasing customer expectations, evolving regulatory landscapes, and the rise of advanced technologies. This has increased the importance of the need of a new approach to data management and governance. So, for any forward-leaning insurer, data modernization should be a priority including the unification of all disparate external and internal sources under one platform.

One solution for insurers can be Microsoft Fabric, which is a unified data platform that empowers firms to ingest, transform, analyze, and visualize data more efficiently. It offers a comprehensive set of tools and capabilities that can help insurers modernize their data infrastructure and drive innovation. Bitwise, a Microsoft Solutions Partner specialized in Azure Data & AI solutions, developed a program that provides value to data professionals at each step of their cloud modernization journey. This unified and collaborative platform caters to all business and technical roles in the organization while serving as the data foundation for the AI era.

Data Modernization Case Studies for Insurance

The below case study examples showcase how we are helping to solve data modernization challenges for our Insurance customers.

Get Your Insurance Data Ready for AI

To harness the power of AI in the Insurance industry, it’s essential to prepare your data. This involves ensuring data quality, integrating disparate sources, establishing robust governance, and engineering meaningful features. By addressing these foundational steps, insurers can effectively train and deploy AI models for tasks like fraud detection, risk assessment, customer segmentation, predictive analytics, and automated customer support.

Bitwise offers a comprehensive solution to accelerate data modernization to ensure AI readiness. With our ETL Migration solutions we automate the migration of legacy ETL tools like SSIS, DataStage, Informatica, Ab Initio, etc. to cloud-native services including Azure Data Factory and AWS Glue or PySpark running in Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, EMR, etc. Similarly, legacy BI reports present limitations for companies looking to leverage advanced analytics and AI. Our BI Modernization solutions transform legacy business intelligence reports to harness the full potential of your data.
